AVRIL (Mk1 #9) Pt1
We start with my girlfriend wanting to get her driver’s licence. She wanted a golf, nothing too flash, and for it to be an auto. Being the punks that we are a few weeks later we found something that would suit both of us. There will be a few mods and upgrades but for the most part it's going to be something to just have fun in... oh and getting your L's.
We had no idea what this car would become!
One day more than a few of years back a mate sent me a message saying he spotted a Mk1 on the side of the road with a note in the window. It was a stock 1.6 auto, the price was just $500 with a couple of months registration, I went and had a look.
The best way I can describe Avril is to show you how we found her.
I showed Becky some pics, we both laughed and Avril came home with us. We named her Avril because we bought the car off this skater punk and the name seemed to fit.
Now I realise when you purchase a vehicle featuring this kind of class and sophistication you can expect a certain level of reliability, so you can understand my surprise when I lost a rear wheel.
When the car dropped and I got out to see what happened the wheel was missing, it took off down a side street haha. Once this was sorted she was our new daily driver.
She really is a funny little thing <3
So what's the best thing to do when you but a beat up rusty Mk1? Take it to a VW show of course.
Here are some photos from the 2010 Day Of The Volkswagen in Adelaide S.A. For the day I threw on a set of coil overs to dump her on her belly.
I remember when we pulled up and parked next to the super clean beige mk1... I stuck my head out the window and said to him "No one told me this was a show'n'shine!" haha he didn't think it was as funny as I thought it was.
Overall it was a good fun day and we had plenty of laughs showing off our little yellow train wreck!
... and lifting a leg on the way home.
I don't exactly remember how the decision was made but painting the bonnet with blackboard paint became a good idea.
It didn't take long for us to get silly.
And then of course more stickers... and more ducks!
