AVRIL (Mk1 #9) Pt3

It's now 6 months later and with another VW show on its way it is time to get the old girl mobile again.

The plan this time is to get the car running “properly” so first up is removing the busted air con.

Busted Air-con removed.

Not sure about these old plates anymore though, I think we can do better.

Avril is now road registered again for the first time in two and a half years and showing off her brand new plates.

Since we will be driving her around this time I have taken off the horribly cut springs. They looked cool but the ride was just awful. So I've borrowed the Weitec coil overs from Captain Ratbag.

Along with the adjustable strut tops.

Hmmm, you know your car is low when you cant get a jack under there.

For a comparison from left to right, standard rear golf shocks, the mutilated cut shocks that were in Avril, and the coil overs.

Our girl back on the ground.

Avril never had a working horn and I had an old random one lying around, here is a quick look at us trying to get it working. Thanks again to my neighbour Tim for once again helping me out.

Avril's first start after sitting idle for years.

Time for a quick string line wheel alignment.

I know this looks dodgy. However before doing it Avril had a wild pull to the left, once complete she tracked straight and true.

She previously had her "angry eyes" on but for a laugh I swapped the head lights over and discovered how cute "sad eyes" are.

Discovered the strut tops are not looking too hot. Someone in the past has poorly welded this up but it needs to be done a lot better.

Much more secure. Again thanks to neighbour Tim for getting weldy with it.

Down at the local shops trying to fit in. Seems legit.

This brings us to the next day and the morning of Volksfest 2013 at Elder park in Adelaide S.A.

Along the Torrens River on the entry to Elder Park is the best spot for photos <3

Could go lower... ;)

The Mk1 line up for the day, there were a few more around the place but this was our little group.

It didn't take long for the chalking to begin.

Again the blackboard bonnet was a hit with the kids.

Especially with this lot, they were drawing for ages.

These next two photos were sent in by this boys mum.

Here are a couple of interior shots. We picked up the deep dish wheel at the show at one of the stalls for $10... score!

Back to the bonnet...

Here are a few pictures taken by local photographers.

Our little rat had another successful show. She put a smile on the face of almost everyone who walked by and I lost count how many stopped to take photos. I would also like to say a huge thank you to all those kind enough to add to our car, all your drawings are greatly appreciated.

A special thanks to Timmy for his addition ... I think haha!

To be continued...
