CHOP BLUEY (Mk1 #7)
This poor little fella never even made it home...
A mate came across this one for sale so we went to have a look at it. A lovely old lady met us and said how it was her daughters and she'd left it there. She'd complained that it was quite loud but that it ran ok, it was unregistered and she only wanted $150 for it.
We found out pretty quick why it was loud, tucked under the bonnet was a 40mm side draft Weber on a Lynx manifold :D The car had poly urethane engine mounts too. I felt a little bad knowing what these were worth but she seemed more than happy for us to just take the car away so that's just what we did.
Although at first she said it was a Cabriolet it was pretty clear that it was a 2 door tin top that had been chopped. The thing was full of rust, all the floors an firewall were full of it. The soft top conversion was done very badly as well, there were sharp bits of metal sticking out where the B pillars had been cut.
Unfortunately it wasn't worth saving so we towed it to a friends shop and I stripped it in the car park.
It was sad to see it go but I got some great parts plus loads of spares to help out in the future. Since then the Weber has been fully rebuilt and is just waiting for the right engine ;)
The end.
