Collingrove Come And Die Day 26/4/09

A mate and I decided to give hill climb a go so we entered a come and try day event up at the Collingrove Hill Climb in South Australia. This was our first time up the hill, it was wet, there was mud everywhere, but we had an awesome day in Piglet!

My little golf ready for it's first tarmac event.

My mate Greg sitting in form up in his grey Honda Civic.

This was the first time I had driven my newly bought Golf in anger, it was great to see how the 1.8 KR responded with my foot flat.

I remember talking to the young guy in the green Mini, he was jokingly bragging that the Mini was putting out 17kw at the wheels haha. That's one of the things I love about low entry level motorsport, you don't need a race car or big money to have a great time. Even though he had one of the slowest cars there, he had an absolute ball, as did the rest of us.

Here's a great shot of me at the start of the burnout strip getting ready to warm up my tires taken by Mark from MWP Sports Photography.

Although it was wet and only a come and try day I still placed in the top third of all the entrants with a best run of 42.61 seconds on stock tyres. Greg's times in red, mine in green.

My first hill climb was a success and had loads of fun. I'll be giving this another go for sure! Here is a quick video of our day, all filmed with a crappy little camera.

The end.
