OBLINA (Mk1 #2)
One day I was out in the street working on The First and a guy came up and asked if I was after parts. I went and had a look and he was scrapping a beat up little 1.6 LS. He asked me what parts I needed, I asked if it ran, he said yes, I offered him $100 for the whole car and we daily drove it for about a year before it died :) This was our first running golf.
We never got that many photos but here’s us parked next to a random beetle.
And parked next to another random beetle :D
This one had rear end damage but it didn't stop us driving it around. It also hated starting in the mornings, sometimes it would take up to 20 minutes of cranking to fire :p The day did come to find a better one and we did, the one we named Nugget. We had Nugs for quite a while until the engine gave out, lucky I had a spare engine sitting around...
When you need to remove an engine, never done one before, don’t have a manual, decent tools, any idea what you’re doing but are motivated you find ways around your problems… hope you like our make shift engine crane! The tyre was great as a counter weight.
A couple of days later the motor was out and the poor old girl was stripped.
This was the last day we had her but as you can see I took loads of parts off it and I suppose this was the real beginning of my spares collection.
The end.
