THE FIRST (Mk1 #1)
23/10/2002, on this day I picked up my first of many... many Volkswagen Mk1 Golfs.
So here it is, this is where it all started. A mate said he was going to look at a car to buy the body kit for his Honda Civic, and yeah it never would have fit but I went to have a look anyway. The minute I saw this car I fell in love <3 Yeah it was very rough but I just had to have it.
I bought it for $500, previous owners failed project car, a total mess on the inside. I never even got the poor old thing started! The whole car had seen better days but it didn't matter to me.
This was my only big rear light golf, they were aftermarket and smoked badly but still looked cool.
Although the car is long gone, I saved many of the parts and after all these years I still have these rims.
The interior was a mess.
The guy I bought it from had intended on restoring it, with the interior he only got as far as tearing out the roof.
It came with a pair of fake SAAS seats, which I took out and we used them to sit on in the lounge room :)
Fun fact: I kept the nut that goes on the steering wheel and it's been on every Golf I've daily driven since.
This text although true is to distract you on how bad this car is...
With some help from Becky (sneaky photobomb) we did a bit of work on this but I never even got it started. We didn't have a driveway at the time so any work had to be done in the street.

The guy told me all I had to do was reconnect the blue wire behind the dash and it should start...
I had a good hard go at fixing the loom but quickly realised I was way out of my depth.
All up I spent maybe 2 weeks on this thing with a wide eyed dream of a full restoration :D
Although this car never went anywhere, I learned a fair bit and this was the beginning of a love affair with early golfs that will be with me for the rest of my life
